Classic Road Bike Renovation
A well-loved vintage road bike came into the workshop for a full renovation — new cables, bearings, bar tape, and drivetrain service. Here is how it went.
Classic steel road bikes from the 1980s and 1990s represent some of the best-riding frames ever built — but they need careful maintenance to keep performing as intended. A beautiful Colnago came into The Bike Zone workshop in Lisburn this month for a comprehensive overhaul after years of light use and storage. The owner wanted it back to fully rideable condition without losing any of the original character. The work included a full cable replacement (brake and gear), new bar tape, headset and bottom bracket bearing service, drivetrain degreasing and lubrication, and wheel truing. The transformation was significant — from a bike that felt vague and imprecise to one that shifted crisply and stopped with confidence. If you have a vintage road bike that deserves better treatment, bring it in to The Bike Zone and we will assess what it needs.
